Your quiz result

Estimated level

2.5

You can keep a short rally going and you know the basic rules and scoring. Serves and returns go in more often than not, but most points end on an error, often your own. You may still spend a lot of time near the baseline, and the soft game at the kitchen line is new.

Your practice focus

These are the skills players at 2.5 most often work on. Take the quiz to get the three that fit you.

Serve

10 ball target serve

Put a towel in the back third of the service box. Serve 10 balls from each side and count how many land past the front two thirds. Beat your count next time.

Dinking

Dink to 20

Cross court dinks with a partner, aiming for 20 in a row with no pop ups. When that is easy, move the ball side to side every third dink.

Court position

Up before the third

In practice games, say "up" out loud after your return and be set at the kitchen line before the other team hits their third shot.

What moves you up

Players move from 2.5 toward 3.0 by getting serves and returns in almost every time, getting to the kitchen line, and dinking without popping the ball up. There is no shortcut, and nobody can promise a rating, but focused practice on your weakest skills usually shows up as fewer free points for the other team.
